Material Selection
Steel
Steel pipe (either hot-rolled seamless or welded) is the backbone of most heavy-duty scaffolding systems due to its high load-bearing capacity and stability. Steel pipe is usually available in standard diameter (48.3 mm OD) and in two finishes: "black" (bare) and galvanized.
Advantages:
- High strength-to-weight ratio, suitable for heavy loads and tall structures
- Durable and rugged, can withstand impacts and repeated assembly/disassembly
Disadvantages:
- Heavy weight (≈4.4 kg/m) increases shipping and labor costs, prone to corrosion if not properly protected
Aluminum
Aluminum scaffolding is highly regarded for its light weight (≈1.7 kg/m), corrosion resistance, and ease of handling, making it ideal for medium-height and indoor projects.
Advantages:
- Reduces labor fatigue and shortens installation/disassembly time
- Naturally corrosion-resistant - very low maintenance costs
Disadvantages:
- Lower ultimate load capacity than steel - not suitable for heavy-duty applications
- Higher initial material cost, but life cycle costs may be favorable
Production Process
1. Raw Material Procurement and Inspection
Steel/Aluminum tubes are sourced from certified factories and are checked for dimensional tolerances and material certificates.
2. Cutting and Forming
Tube Cutting: Long coils or tube blanks (typically 6 meters in length) are cut to required dimensions by automated sawing or laser cutting.
Chamfering and Deburring: End burrs are removed.
3. Welding and Assembly
Component Welding: Frames, brackets and struts are welded using MIG or automated welding equipment to ensure consistent penetration and strength.
Thread Rolling and Punching: For adjustable props, threads are rolled into the tube and holes are punched as per the design.
4. Surface Treatment
Galvanizing: Hot-dip galvanizing or electro-galvanizing provides corrosion protection, especially important for steel components.
Powder Coating/Painting: Optional colors for branding or safety visibility.
5. Quality Control
Dimension Verification: Check tube length, diameter, hole location and thread pitch.
Load testing: Selected components are static load tested to verify rated capacity.
6. Packaging and shipping
Bundling: Bundling, shrink wrapping or strapping components to pallets.
Labeling: Labeling with part number, batch number and inspection stamp.
Logistics: Shipping via container or flat rack, optimizing loading to minimize damage during transportation.
