116-7408 116-7409 Grooved Pin & Retainer Caterpillar J400

Manufactured to original factory tolerances for seamless installation, 116-7408 and 116-7409, these grooved pins and retainers meet original Cat specifications, eliminating the guesswork and downtime when replacing worn linkage components.

116-7408 and 116-7409 for J400 Heavy Duty Retainers feature a dual spring retainer that holds the pin much more tightly than a standard pin and retainer. The coil spring retainer absorbs lateral pressure and eliminates retainer loosening. When properly installed, the retainer will not rotate, reducing abrasive wear between the pin and retainer.

1. Material Selection

116-7408 and 116-7409 are made of high-strength alloy steel, which is more resistant than ordinary materials in hot and humid conditions.

2. CNC Turning and Slotting

The bars are first precision turned on a multi-axis CNC lathe to obtain accurate diameters. Subsequent CNC slotting operations cut the retaining grooves to an accuracy of ±0.01 mm.

3. Heat Treatment

Controlled quenching and tempering cycles optimize the hardness of the steel (HRC 48-52) while maintaining core toughness to resist impact loads.

4. Surface Treatment

After precision grinding, the parts are coated with zinc phosphate conversion coating and clear sealer for enhanced corrosion resistance.
