Machining & Processing Workflow

1. Raw Material Selection

We chose to use high-strength alloy steel with consistent chemical composition and impact toughness ≥ 18 J at –20 °C to make the 133-0699 and 132-4763 retainers.

2. Forging & Forming

Billets are heated to forging temperature (~ 1150 °C), then pressed in multi-stage dies to achieve near-net shape. This refines the grain structure for improved mechanical properties and fatigue resistance.

3. CNC Finishing

Critical bearing surfaces and seating faces are finish-machined on 5-axis CNC centers to ± 0.02 mm tolerance, ensuring perfect alignment and load distribution in the bucket assembly.

4. Heat Treatment

  • Normalization: Refines microstructure for uniformity.
  • Quenching & Tempering: Achieves a surface hardness of HRC 48–52 with a ductile core, preventing brittle failures under shock loads.
  • Stress Relieving: Eliminates residual stresses from forging and machining, ensuring dimensional stability during service.

5. Surface Finishing & Inspection

Parts undergo shot-blasting and phosphate coating (or optional powder coating) for corrosion resistance, followed by 100% magnetic-particle and dimensional inspection to guarantee zero defects.
